Further update: I've a 15% off voucher, which they've agreed to honour for C2W.

So my budget's £1175 :bravo: up from the £1000.

That brings into play the Genesis Croix de Fer 2014

Also the Giant Talon 0 2014 MTB:

To many choices now, going to fry my brain..........I'm glad it's not me making decision. Have you done any test rides yet?

Personally I'd still be looking at the Giant, even with the increase in budget.

Then again I am biased  but the spec is damn good.

I'm test-riding the Whyte 805 on Monday also any cross bike they have in my size.

Whilst I like the idea of the Genesis, 3 road bikes means an MTB is more likely. I just need to finding some thing(s) at Edinburgh Cycles to spend the additional £176 on.

An update: this lunchtime I went to test-ride the Whyte 805 and a 'cross bike, which turned out to be the Genesis Croix de Fer '14 model.

The Whyte felt great - light and responsive. It's well-equipped, particularly at £850 with the 15% discount.

In contrast the brakes on the Genesis weren't great and it wouldn't offer much over what I already have.

So, Whyte 805 ordered and is being held until the C2W starts at the end of this month (it had to be ordered in the next 10 days to get the discount).

I think that's a wise choice. I love my Tricross but I'm the first to admit it's a compromise, falling between the road and offroad camps. If I could have two bikes, I'd have a road bike and a mtb just to enjoy the best both disciplines have to offer.

Excellent looking bike. Don't forget pics when you get it, love the looks of Whyte bikes, subtle but very cool looking.
