As previous posters - most, if not all Forces have frozen recruiting & are looking to make further savings

Generally it would take 18 months to go through the recruitment process, some of my friends have also taken the PCSO route as a stepping stone to the 'regulars'. I have no idea about PCSO recruitment but fear that it would be frozen at the moment.

Dudi, definitely look into the Special Constabulary. However it looks like Suffolk have suspended recruitment until at least April 2010 http://www.suffolk.police.uk/Join+Our+Team/Specials/Information+Evenings/

Is there any other force on the border perhaps? A few people I know applied to another force and then transferred over.

Have you thought of other branches of law inforcement?

Security services are recruiting, British Transport Police or Customs and Excise, Post Office investigations, DSS, the list is almost endless. Worth investigation.

Check Norfolk, Essex and the Met. All commutable from where you are.

good Luck Dudi .I was made redundant many years ago and remember how worrying it is. Turned out to be the best thing ever happened to me as I now have a more interesting job.Hope it all works out well for U.

As you said 4F, not a suprise - i am gettin gused to the idea now!

I'll be keeping my eyes open for Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk taking on officers and applying to them as soon as they announce recruitment.

In the mean time - got to find myself a 'job' in a nice warm office...
