New commuter bike

I ride a canal path sometimes on both my road bike and mtb (with slicks). It hard on both, because on the former its more bumpy and uncomfortable and on the latter its just not as fast, can't win. Personally I would get a hybird as recommended above simply because it will be more comfortable. From all reviews the subway is a good buy

Unfortunately Subway isn't available on my company scheme, I will have a look at all the ones recommended if i can. They look like good options so thanks for the suggestions all.

Just a quick note to thank everyone for the help. (Un)fortunately for me, all my friends for road bikes recently and we have been going out on the weekends for a ride, after being the last one up Ashurst Beacon I'm now getting a road bike, I'm going to give my current commuter a good service instead

sounds like fun times ahead, and you could always bung some lighter skinnier tyres on the hardrock if you wanted to hybridise it a bit.

mind you, i would be tempted in the meantime to propose an off road ride for you and your lycra obsessed roadie mates, then call them all pussies for refusing to agree.

Great bike. I have the rim brake version from last year with 28c nimbus tyres. swapped them out for 25c slicks for the summer and she fly's

lol, it does and I will be as soon as I wear the current ones out, Ive been making them skinnier and skinnier each time.

Somehow I think they may refuse, after riding with them on my MTB for a bit I realise I need to get in the habit of dodging potholes :-D The person behind me isnt too impressed when I lead them into something

That's their lookout - it's not your fault if they bought a road bike and not your responsibility to look after it for them! Do you expect them to go out on the trail before you and inspect it for wet roots, quicksand and vertical drops?!

This was new to me having never ridden with anyone else apart from on Mountain bikes since my teenage years, I did warn once I realised.

First ride in today on the road bike, cant believe how much difference it makes. I now know how crap our roads are but on the other hand I can fly along them.
