I'm really happy with my Pompetamine Versa Pro 11 as a commute bike. I've put my own comments under that road.cc review. I've had mine almost a year now and it fits your 'bombproof' category rather well in my opinion. I am glad it's not my only bike, as it is nice to whizz along on some carbon goodness when the weather allows. The Pomp is great for winter and load lugging though. I don't regret having it one bit.

Me too. Well, I don't have either of the two mentioned, but I have a Charger Mixer with bar ends. It's a lovely bike, but the gearing is too spaced out.

If you're in a particularly hilly area (like here in W. Yorkshire) you're in a close enough gear most of the time, but never quite in the right one.

Although hub gears are great for commuting, I still like to get out on my derailleur bike every so often.

I think Genesis are using the Avid brakes for 2012, instead of the troublesome Tektro in 2011.
