Thanks Howard.

I've found no problem with the Sport Contacts, aside one puncture after 980 miles.

The bike shop will be replacing tyre and tube under Conti Safety System guarantee, but I was thinking of using opportuntity to pay extra and change to Gators for the winter.

I think I'll stick with the Sport Contacts as they're pretty good in the wet and I find the 32mm a good compromise between speed and comfort.

Yup I liked them, a good compromise. Incedently I run these off road and have found them to be comfortable and fast on-road too. At £10 a go, bargain.

Impressed your LBS will replace your tyre under the guarantee given the bike doesn't ship with the conti inners. Mine were Kenda branded.

+1 on the 'Gators don't do it for me'. Have to say that tho' they seem to have many fans, I've never really had much luck with any Conti tyres - they ride nicely, but they seem to cut up really quickly and badly on London roads - much more so than Michelins or Bontragers I've tried.

My bike also came with Kenda. I spoke with Conti and they say that the guarantee covers bikes that came with them, even if I didn't buy them.

I got my Mixer via Halfords as my employers uses them for the C2work. Halfords say they will replace both tyres & tube.

That's pretty sweet. Nice one.

It does seem a bit marmite like with gators! I think I'm gonna go for the Michelin krylium carbon, they've got good reviews and are 40 squid instead of 54 for the gators a set! There back in stock in 25c in chainreaction the end of the month supposedly so I'll grab some then hopefully!

Hated Gator Skins with a passion. Sod all wet weather grip, and the puncture protection is a joke.

Fitted Michelin Krylium Carbon just after Xmas last year, and they've proven to be cracking tyres.
Good grip, good wear, and no visits from the fairy in 2000 miles.

Im currently running Michelin Krylion (2months old) and I've had 4 punctures in the last 2 weeks! I think the Stelvios are better only 7 or 8 punctures in 4500 miles. Im now going to use Zefal Liner if this doesn't work I'll try the Armadillo Elite. IMHO it all depends on your route. Best thing is to ask someone who does the same route. I think Ianruk is doing the same route as me so my next tyres would be the Armadillos.

I run Michelin Krylions on the Yukon. They've done almost 2400 miles with only two you-know-whats. Good grip in the dry, fairly good in the wet with the exception of wet metal drain covers and fast rolling - definitely a good tyre.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Schwalbe Marathon plusses yet. They're the ultimate in bomb-proof commuting tyres. I've never had any trouble with mine on the Galaxy. They are heavy but that's not actually noticable in practice. I find they seem to have better grip overall in the wet than the Krylions and even a surprising amount of grip on ice (don't ask me how I know this!).

Right I'd thought I'd made my choice and now another to consider lol the marathon pluses look puncture resistant and if you say they grip better........they tick all my boxes! The little extra weight doesn't concern me........the 30 mph head winds come winter will be a more serious concern lol

I've always heard good stuff about Marathons even though I don't use them...

Even when I rang up the bike shop about the Greentyre the guy on the other end recommended Marathons.

I swapped the Kenda tyres on my Plug for some Schwalbe Marathon+ rubber after having two punctures in one day (back tyre on the way in, front on the way home!).

Need to keep the pressure up, but so far after six month's use I've had no more flats.

I ditched Bontragers, they came with the bike and I stuck with them, but after starting to commute by bike, as soon as it started to rain I knew I was in trouble, and I would never touch them again.

Having said all that got a puncture yesterday on the gator, on the rear, somehow something had torn a hole in the side wall of the tyre, never even touched the bottom tread area of the tyre. New tube in and it was popping out of the tyre wall, but I had no choice to cycle home on it, and after just 1,000 miles had to throw it away. Still amazed at how it occurred,.

Had my Bontys on my Trek 1.5 since new - Done maybe nearly 2k on them with not a spot of bother. If it rains heavy I take it easy anyway no matter what bike and tyres I have on.
