Taking the biscuit
I should really be writing this to TfL but I wonder if anyone is having fun with the roadworks going on in the left hand bus lane between New Cross Gate and the start of the Old Kent Road?

Everyday I'm seeing cyclists riding either on the pavement or into the face of what is essentially, one way, on coming traffic and I'm calmly amazed that there hasn't been an accident I've heard about yet.

I pulled up to turn left out of my road yesterday morning only to meet a fixie rider coming up on my left, going the wrong way in the nearside bus lane.

The buses have been given a diversion, why not cyclists?

I shall write to TfL about this, so if any of you out there have things you want pointed out, let me know.

As the contractors doing the works are replacing old water mains there is a good chance that these works are going to creep up the A2 to Elephant & Castle and there will be plenty of dodgy points for cyclists that should be addressed in advance.

Ta.

Where are the buses diverted to?
Heading into town from New Cross, recently I have been heading towards Peckham, and the along Asylum Road to join the Old Kent Road.
There have been progressive water main works further up the Old Kent Road for some time now.

The buses currently go along Queen's Road(as you do, toward Peckham)but they turn right, just after the fire station and onto Kender St.(opposite the Montague Arms)and rejoin the Old Kent Road by turning left opposite the Hong Kong City resturant.

You are probably better off going along to Asylum Road although I guess you have to be sneaky as it is technically a no right turn there.

I was thinking of posting an alternative route around the works if anyone approaches from the Sainsburys, it might even be quicker than going towards Peckham.
