I absolutely hated it when it came out... some years ago, probably mid 2000s I watched it on telly and thought I'd judged it rather harshly. Much of the humour is like that of the Simpsons etc in that it takes an adult sometimes to click.

I have also heard that Alan Ruck doesn't really want to reprise his character - not that he hated the film, but because it led to him being typecast for years afterwards. If he makes an appearance in the adverts I'll happily eat my words.

I do remember him in Spin City, and I suppose because of his objections to the Holywood system, both my brother and I said "Thats the bloke from Ferris Bueller!!" At the time we'd thought he'd just done the film and sunk without a trace.

He's done quite a lot in Hollywood though - I remember him turning up in Star Trek and Speed before Spin City, and looking on Wikipedia he was in Young Guns II and Twister too... but they were always small parts and slightly woosy characters. I think its possibly just Hollywood not finding meatier parts for him.
