Hello fellow cyclists; I used to be on many forums like this back in the day when I was competing in triathlons and doing things like the Surrey Rumble, now I'm just a humble cyclist using my bike to get around London, as it is by far the quickest and most reliable way to get around town. Plus the new global warming climate makes it more pleasant and dry. Curious to know what the purists make of e-bikes; for or against?

Recently spent two weeks at our son's home in Belgium.
Most people ride bikes for transport there. It looked like about 90%were on ebikes.
I bought one for my 80th birthday but I find my Thorn Mercury a more comfortable ride and the ebike only comes out for hilly or long club rides.

e bikes ?? pit of a can of worms !
The legal ones used responsibly are great as they get people who would not otherwise cycle due to a variety of reasons mobile , the ones that pop up all the time on various news and media that are essentially motorbikes i would happily stick in a crusher and press start .

all sorts of opinions on here - but people express them reasonably

As my username suggest I use an ebike
legal and all that and I generally ride in Eco mode so not that much assistance

but when I ride it I reckon I go twice as far as I would do on a "normal" bike and do it twice as often

In my eyes E bikes are great and getting better all the time. I don’t need, or even want one at the moment, although I could do as I get older. Lots of friends (especially female ones) and colleagues love theirs and make journeys they would normally use the car for or take on rides they had assumed were beyond them.
