I like the look of the 510. It might be the 305 replacement I've been keeping an eye open for.

I'm wondering if any owners can post a review (and I'm aware of Garmin's ability to release a product with buggy software! They seem to beta test in the field!)

Very few people seem to have gone with the 510, either that or it is delayed in shipping because there is basically no comments, even on the Garmin forum regarding the unit.

DCRainmakers review is the best one out there.

I have the 810 and have only used it while doing turbo sessions. Hoping to head out at the weekend but typically I appear to be coming down with the bug my mum, dad and my two sons have had! Grrr!

I upgraded from the 705 and love it. Looking forward to trying out the Live tracking feature as I do a few Sportives and handy for those who've sponsored me to tack me during the event. A lot of people saying it's not worth the upgrade from the 800 but I've would it a worthy update from the 705.

The Live Tracking feature is something that interests me. Do you know if it is configurable? That is (and I'm making a few assumptions here), I'm assuming it doesn't keep a data connection live for the entire ride so do you configure the updates for every x minutes, or x miles etc?

I'm thinking of something like LEL (1400km, 5 days) where the live tracking would be of interest to friends and family... but it could also be one helluva mobile phone bill!

The live update, and live weather require Bluetooth connection to your phone, and your phones already has live tracking apps. I do not know for sure, but I do wonder what BT effect on the 810's battery life will be, and of course it will be draining your phone too.

Really? That's a fiddle way of doing it.

Or am I missing something.

As I thought. Pleasing to know that I'm not missing something! Seriously, I'm not up with technology and there could have been some other means of live tracking (e.g. via GPS) that I was unaware of.

So I'm figuring (hoping really) that you can configure the frequency of those updates?

I have no intention to use the bluetooth features, I only bought one (810) as my old Garmin broke and I liked the new UI. The new UI is very good compared to the old one, but the device is so buggy it is a horror to behold.

If I still had my old Garmin, I would return the 810 and wait 3 month until they sorted more bugs then buy it again, alas, not really an option for me atm.

I guess if you have a (genuinely) unlimited data usage contract then it's okay. Maybe they do in the US or something but I thought even those that do claim to be unlimited do have 'fair usage' limits in practice.

The data usage rates would be very small I would imagine. I don't know because as I said, I don't have much interest in those features. I just liked the new UI which allows me to have my 3 bikes all entered on 3 different profiles and 5 different activity profiles, all with different data displays and device settings so I don't have to modify my data screens manually every other day. It is also very quick to get to the power meter calibration menu vs my old unit too, which helps as I manually zero the meter 3 times per ride (start, 15-20 mins in, then again at the end so I can see the extent of any drift).

It's a real consideration for me. LEL = 90 to 100 odd hours on payg data roaming. That'd mount up!

Seriously though, if the live tracking was was less 'live' than 'periodic' (and configurable at that) then I'd be happy. Hence my original question.
