New Hewitt Cheviot SE - pump question

Picked it up yesterday and had a quick 10 miles round the block, like it. Off out today for a few more miles.

It has a single pump peg on the LHS seat stay. Bikes I've had before have either had two pump pegs or none. I expect this is obvious, but not to me I'm afraid - what type of pump(s) use only one peg please? Presumably the other end locates in the dropout, but I've looked and nothing has jumped out at me.

Thanks

Graham

As does my Thorn Audax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Be aware that the pump comes in different sizes, and you need the right one to match your frame. Also, the pump will need lubricating from time to time as road spray gets inside it.

Well, you grab your shaft...

(Actually, you can unscrew the top of the barrel, withdraw the shaft & plunger, clean the barrel with a rag on a stick, clean the shaft, run a few drops of oil around the inside of the barrel and reassemble. I also give the shaft a wipe with some oil otherwise it goes rusty).

To be honest I'd forget about the whole thing and stuff a Topeak Roadmorph in a pannier. Takes very little room - far easier to use.

Here - bargain.

It's only fault is that the gauge cab be a bit of a pig to read. But hey, most of those old-school pumps have no gauge, no foot thing, no flexible hose worthy of the name.

This.

A cracking price for a great bit of kit. I don't get the seat stay mounting at all: you risk spray and crap knackering the pump or the pump jumping off when you hit a pothole and ending up in your spokes.

Mine's never come off in ten years of use, and it gets a service about once every two years. Much better than a mini pump.
