Go test ride them (which means not Halfords, go to Evans)

Trek used to build the Cali WSD in 29" wheels across all sizes (AFAIK). It now comes in "Smart Wheel Size: The right wheel size paired with your frame size gives you the perfect combination of responsiveness and control" say Trek marketing suits, which is different to what they said last year.
17"/18."=29er
13.5"/15.5"=27.5er
I still maintain that you can build better, more fun geometry 13" frame on 26".
The difference between 27.5 and 29 is much less than 26->29..obviously.

I've recently gone from 26" to 27.5" and I can't feel a massive difference tbh. That said, they do roll better over rough stuff I find. I'm only small and I think I'd find 29" a bit cumbersome. I like to control the bike, not the bike controlling me. So 27.5 gets my vote :okay:
I did try before I bought it so if you can, get some test rides and make your own comparisons.
