I know its not a Friday, but....

There is a trailer for a TV Programme called "Shetland".. and I liked the theme music

So I googled and discovered Agnes Obel

Two ways for this thread to go...

What music have you found through TV programmes?

What is the weirdest source for discovering a new artist?

I discovered the music of Kate Miller-Heidke on The Big C. The song was called The Last Day on Earth. Did some youtubing and heard some more stuff, ended up buying most of her back catalogue on import from Australia because I couldn't get it in the UK. Her latest album is out in the next few weeks and it's funded by fans through pledgemusic.com.

The great thing about music on TV shows nowadays is that it's easy to find out what songs are used. My Mad Fat Diary even does a playlist of the songs used on each episode that can be found on the C4 website. Does make me feel old though ^_^

...

that reminds me... i need to get myself some of the LPs highlighted on that Danny Baker's Great Album Showdown.

The gallery themes from take hart and vision on, the theme from the sweeney and the professionals and picture box and space 1999 have all led on to me sourcing a large collection of library/production music.

listening to a lot of sample based music I tend to try to find the source of many samples, which also lands me at a load of obscure library music and old forgotten TV themes.

Tunng I discovered via a ten minute profile on C4 one night... oh and, does Adam and the Ants on TOTP count?

oh... and... I've never been a fan of David Bowie's music, but after seeing this guy...

...on Wes Anderson's wonderful movie The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou... I have a new found appreciation of Bowie.

Not sure if it counts as weird, but Rhino Records in LA used to give away boxes of unsellable CDs if you spent $20 on certain weekends. Led me to discover the sonic delights of Darkbuster, Shimri and Mustardplug, among others. All highly recommended.

If you like that try Olafur Arnolds. He did the music for Broardchurch on TV and The Hunger Games amongst others.
