Looking at buying 2 new more powerful PCs for work. On Dell's website, all those in the business section bar 1 or 2 come with w7 rather than 8/10. Am I missing something?

Most of my software/drivers are up to date so can't see it being much of an issue, just expecting to see them all as w8.1

Dell know how dire Win 8 was. and Win 10 is a free upgrade.

lots of business haven't finished assessing Win10 so will roll back to Win7 on final set up anyway. so not going to pay for something they will get rid of.

we have Win7 on the work machines and I cant see Win10 for 18 months or more at least, based on IT dept testing regime.

Thank. I remember when w8 came out and I had to pay extra to get w7 as a novelty. A few years down the line and it now appears to be the mainstream. Was just making sure they weren't just dumping obsolete machines on me!

I have Windows 7, Windows 7 Pro and Windows XP on my machines. XP is getting a bit clunky but I'm more than happy with 7 or 7 Pro.

Edit: BTW, if you use Firefox, get the free Ad Blocker Plus add-on. It's wonderful for blocking junk.

I'd stick with 7 and not go for the 'free 10 upgrade', tried it on this laptop and it didn't last a day before I 'rolled back' to 7.
It seems to be better than 8 (from comments found on t'internet) but 8 was more of a mobile/tablet OS according to the lecturers on my computer technicians course (but they were all XP Pro fans)

I have 7 at work and 8 at home. Happy with either really. Just surprised that on business machines, 7 is the norm.

I have XP Pro on my main PC and 7 on my laptop. Of the two I prefer XP, if only for its vastly superior search - other than that, they're essentially much of a muchness. Never felt the need for an 'upgrade'; my take has always been if it ain't broke...

And they took out the rather handy picture editor that was on XP. I don't suppose you have found a work around? For the OP, my new work PC is also using 7.

aww that's not fair on 10, which although different from 7 is a whole lot better than Vista and 8 ( even 8.1) . have had no problems on the 3 machines at home that have been moved to win 10 from 7 and 8.1 . that said I did always run scans regularly and make sure they were kept in tip top condition with any bloatware removed asap

Firefox.

IE is utter garbage, it is the default on the work machines but we have so much web app stuff that wont run on IE, so we have firefox on the machines as well.

forget about edge it is abysmal.

Oh and I use McAfee internet security as firewall and AV . I had the trusteer stuff on a Vista machine and it just sloooooowed everything down so much.

Might give Firefox a go then , Trusteer can be a pain when you first log-in but it seems to calm down after a couple of minutes , just hit download on firefox , see how it goes :okay:
