An Italian priest has given Pope Francis a 20-year-old white Renault 4 to drive himself around Vatican city.

The car - which has 300,000 km (190,000 miles) on the clock - was presented to the Pope by Father Renzo Zocca at the weekend. The pontiff later drove it.

Known for his humble lifestyle, Francis said he used to drive the same car in his native Argentina....

Hub gear with full chain case would be a better bet for someone who wears a cassock (or whatever it's called).

Friends of mine were nearly run over in Windsor Great Park by an elderly woman wearing a scarf and driving an old Rover 90.....
If the Pope rides a bike, does he have to use a ladies' model or are the holy vestments loose enough to get your leg over?
He'd ride a pastoorfiets designed especially for cassock wearing clergy... This Pope would ride a black stock one. The Vatican luvvies would want it painted white and have the coachlines done in real gold.

I find the RC Church bizarre and at times horrid (post-war ratlines, views on contraception and myopia to abuse inter alia), but this new Pope geezer is warming my heart.

He has a touch of the Don Camillos about him. I like his modest apartment and in the 4L he has chosen a car probably designed by God, or at least a committee of quite senior angels or something like that.

Pope in a Renault 4...... Excellent!

If we could get him to ride a Guzzi and an old, steel Colnago, I'd read the Bible again and start praying. Or at least I'd say I would....

Careful. Some of the contemporary Guzzi's are the very opposite of what you want.
