What sort of bike do you want? "Road" is extremely broad, any bike with drop bars really. What are you going to be using it for - club runs, sportives, racing, touring? With £3500 the world is almost your oyster - carbon, steel, titanium. You might even find 2 bikes are better. What level do you ride at - diminishing returns as you start to spend over £2-2.5k IMO (unless you are going the bespoke route)

Go to your local high end dealers and talk to them, look at options, ride some (although at that level, if they don't know you, it'll likely be on a turbo)

Where are you based and then folks can recommend dealers

Send me the £3.5k & I will send you a nice 2014 Cube Agree with some Haribo thrown in the box as a 'sweetner'.

Seriously though, you have a very good budget, although I suggest you don't need to spend it all.

If it were my $$$ & I wanted carbon then I would look at Canyon, Cube, Giant or the new Genesis Team bike.

Titanium from Van Nicholas, Genesis or Litening.

My dream bike would be a custom steel race bike in Reynolds 953 or 853 from Feather, Swallow, Rourke in my own custom colours.

Be sure to let us all see your final purchase on here &

What's your address ?

I am a complete newbie to all this but my take on things

If you are spending that sort of cash then it would make sense that you must be a keen cyclist? If that is the case then surely you would have some idea of the sort of bike you wanted?

If you are new to cycling then it might be wise to spend a little less to make sure you enjoy it first?

^^^ speaks sense

Personally, I wouldn't blow the whole lot on one bike - get two that do different things, e.g. carbon for racing (if that's your bag) and then a more relaxed bike in steel/Ti

OP may already have a stable and this is the new toy...hence go for the bike that you've always wanted whatever that may be! With outgoing models, with a £3500 budget, not that much is totally out of reach (from the bikes I've seen)

Strong discounts if happen to be the right size and you want a racing bike

Although not sure I'd spend that sort of cash on a bike from a shop closing down!

Thanks for the answers. I am new to cycling and currently have a specialized Sirrus carbon frame, which I enjoy riding but have some money spare and am therefore looking for another bike. I will take a look at some of those mentioned :-)

My thoughts would be as you're new to riding, keep the cash in the bank for now and ride the Sirrus. Really get to know it, its good and bad points, what you love and hate about it and what type of riding you enjoy. Then in a while you can use that knowledge to really make an informed decision about what new bike you want. For three and a half grand you deserve something that's exactly right for you and you wont know what that is just yet. It's a decision worth taking some time over.

Of course, if you just want to splash some cash on something shiny, don't let me stop you!

Oh yeah, for what it's worth, if I had £3500 to spend on a bike it'd be a custom build, maybe a Craddock.
