When you look closely at the marks they are not even, if it were there to aid you would think it would be a proper channel. Anyway I've had a go on them and they are really difficult!
An ex cycling coach helped me master the rollers, it took me 10 minutes to get the hang of it although my initial thoughts were 'this is not for me, there is no way I can do this'.
The best advice was to start with the rollers next to a wall, brakes on, get on the bike and lean against the wall before starting.
Gently push off from the wall and start peddling & look straight ahead.
You'll soon get the hang of it.

Door frames are good as they'll catch you either way. They do get easier, honest. There are plenty of tips and videos on the interbob to get you started. One day you'll find yourself spinning away thinking about something else and realise you've got it.

I heart my rollers. Although they're not going to give you great amounts of resistance, there's somerhing therapeutic and deeply satisfying about an hour's low-tech spinning.

I was really pleased last night to be sable to take a t-shirt off whilst on the rollers, it was only after I accomplished this amazing feat did I remember, I was on the turbo. Doh!

I did get better, but now and again my front wheel would wobble. I think I also have the rollers set too long.

I used my rollers a fair bit a few years back and got quite good IMO anyway , eating, drinking, over an hour on them and a sub 20 min 10 miles (or 10 Inch ;)). I couldn't imagine any of that now given my last performance back in Feb but it did get easier and when I use them again I'll have to relearn them again. Its perhaps this relearning that makes them less monotonous for me
