hello all purchased a new sirrus elite last week ,have only done about 100miles, no really rough roads , but the rear wheel spokes seem to have a bit of sideways play in them already.

have seen posts that some people have had problems with the sirrus wheels but would have thought this would have been rectified by specialised by now latest 2008 range.

when i went to local lbs to pick up cycle it was not assembled so picked it up later .

not sure if the shop should tigten /adjust wheels etc prior to someone riding the cycle.

    thank you

    back to the shop surely?

I certainly would expect the bike to be ready to ride, although this is why they invite you back in for a checkup after a week or so I suspect

Machine-built wheels aren't built properly. They're done by tension settings. It's not surprising for them to go out. Pop it back to the shop and they'll sort it out properly for you.

I've got an '07 elite and never had any spoke problems.
Definitely back to the shop job. They should sort it for free.

It's normally after about six weeks which gives the parts time to bed in. As you say though back to the shop ASAP before the damage gets too bad or even worse fails in use!

six weeks or so many miles surely?

always been miles for me, that or something going wrong that can't wait

  7. Definately take it back. Ive got an '06 Sirrus Sports with Alex rims, I actually got it Nov 05, Ive only just replaced the wheels last month and the spokes were fine.

Slightly Off-Topic, but I take it grit and the like gets between the brake block and the rim and wears it down with time. Or was it worse i.e. buckled or something?

  9. It was probably just a safety/ upgrade thing. The alex rims never had a wear marker on them so I was never sure. When I took them off the front had plenty of more life in it but the rear was a bit more concave. I also wanted something a bit lighter:becool:

"rear wheel spokes seem to have some sideways play in them" ?

Do you mean the spokes are loose, or do you mean the rim is moving? Spokes don't get sideways play until they're broken!

Either way, to the shop with it!
