It's only a mile and 3/4 each way between the station and work! I'm going to try and get out more at the weekends too to get my money's worth out of the bike!

I started off like that, just 2 miles to the station, but as time goes on you just want more! From that I looked up where the next station on my route was to cycle that little bit further for a while. In the end I just decided to take a deep breath and do the whole commute. I now cycle 18 miles into work and home again and I love it.;)

Wow! Cycling all the way is not an option for me unfortunately - it's 56 miles each way from home (near Basingstoke) to work in London and involves the M3!

Oh that's a shame, but at least a cycle to the station is saving you petrol money and parking! Or a long walk. I'll be interested to hear if you do sneak some mileage increase in there though, if you're able to.

You'll know you're hooked when your door-to-door commute is 5 miles, but you get up that little bit earlier so you can get out and take the circular 16 mile route in ...

Cheers,
Shaun

Its a laser radial, pic was taken at Shoreham Open a couple of years ago when it was howling so huge waves. Lots of fun if a tad scary

Might be a reduced scale boat ( ) but it's full sized seas out there. Very

Don't get much sea sticking to the Solent... although it's not always as flat as it was on the day this was taken...

BTW, I nicked someone else's sail that day. My hull is number 5xxx.

Now that's an impressively old boat. I've just got a brand new one but love seeing the old ones still going when someone's looked after them well. Mine always fall apart as I travel lots and go out in all weathers.

Hi

I've been looking round the site now for a something like a couple of months. Although I've never posted I've found it really helpful for information since starting commuting in June and just wanted to say thanks.

Welcome back laertes. Did you enjoy your CC holiday?

Actually did some commuting by bike, for a few months Jan-March this year. Had always fussed about it and finally got some gear, got organised and just did it and wondered why I had always seen it as a huge task.

Was doing a 28 mile round trip 3-4 times a week:biggrin: Sadly now I am not at that site anymore. My last workplace had no showers so spent the summer commuting on the train grrr:angry:

I tend to totally overscale things in my mind before I do it and then wonder what the problem was and mentally slap myself that I did it again! But, it's good to know you're up and running again!

Showers don't apparently need to put you off cycling anymore. I'm sure you'll start hearing lots of advice about the benefits of baby wipes and other great little tips to get you clean and fresh when there's no shower. I'm lucky in that we have showers where I work, but I'm aware that's a luxury!

We had no showers at work for twenty years.

Did this coincide with having no friends?

I'm usually rotten by the time I get through my journey, but I do believe that, if necessary, baby wipes would do the trick.
