Recently decided i wanted to get a road bike but i am only looking to spend about £300-400.

Any suggestions on which bikes would be good for this sort of budget?

Thanks,

Try your LBS for last years stock on clearance. I go my Giant Defy 4 for £400 from £475 on clearance just by asking them.

If not, I'd go there and get sized up for a road bike, then look used. You'll get much more for your money.

Try secOnd hand. If your first get the feel of it then once u get enough cash then blow. Right now ull soon catch the bug. Try eBay and Gumtree etc. check them out as thoroughly as u can

Is there much difference between the decthlon and carrera? Out of the two i personally prefer the carrera but i would rather quality if there is a big difference

I may look second hand if i cant find a reasonable new one. It mainly just for commuting than anything else

I personally would get the triban 3. I did look at the carrera but it was off putting (maye bcah it was halfords quality)
Then what you have left over get some essentials. Pump bottle perhaps spanner and Allen keys

Ok thanks for the advice. Think i might head down and get one tomorrow. One final question, do road bikes have a weight limit?

Edit: was looking at something from triban and it says "This bicycle, and particularly its braking system, is designed for a maximum load of 100kg (220lbs). For example, for a bicycle
weighing 13kg (29lbs) and carrying 5kg (11lbs) of luggage, maximum user weight is 100-13-5 = 82kg (181lbs)."

Does this sound about right as i weight more roughly 90-95kg

They both have Shimanos bottom end groupos (2300) The TDF has a Hi-Tensile steel fork, it'll soak up rough road vibrations, but not very good (I have a chro mo steel fork on my Defy not very good) The Decathlon has a carbon fork which will be smoother on the roads as carbon flexes. Also the Carrera weighs 12kilos and the Declathon; 10.5kilos which you will notice.

Make your choice though as it's your money.

Gve it a while yet sir and youll lose the kilos and tone them legs

ps if u want to get the tdf u can your choice halfords being halfords half of them are saleman and taught the basics of bikes so make sure if they set it up for u it's the bike mechanic himself or go to your lbs and redo it
