I would definitely recommend trying different bikes to see what fits you and your riding style best . i.e. if it's an endurance road bike or more of an aggressive geometry geared towards racing. It's also difficult to gauge your size, for each brand fits a little bit differently, top tube length and all that good jazz.

My employer won't go with the bike scheme because of the hassle. My emplyer is my dad as well. God damn him! Haha. I'm now Thinking of getting a decent used bike instead of new for my first bike and seeing how I take to it

As far as Triban 3 measurements go - I'm 5' 9" and the 54 inch frame was just right for me with a bit of adjustment either way.
Being somewhat new to road biking I bought a shlightly shorter stem and flipped it and am gradually raising my saddle as I get used to the feel of the bike.
They are a shedload of bike for the money and are selling like hot-cakes. Chances are a few will drop by the wayside in the coming year and start showing up on eBay etc? Not sure I would buy one used though when a new one is so cheap. This months 'Cycle Active' magazine has a 7 page spread on how to pimp your Tribble! Overkill is the one with the £250 upgraded wheel set and £330 pounds worth of leather saddle, bag, brakes etc. which kind of defeats the object of a £299.95 bike in my mind............but hey....all good clean fun!

I've tricked mine out with a few choice parts (Raceface Stem, saddle, Carradice Wedge-pack, new pedals, Swanky red 'specialised' bottle cage, new pedals, 'Tescos' cycle computer (don't knock it 'til you've tried it), pump and a few general bits and bobs but doubt I've even spent 3 figures customising it (yet!).

The only major component I am a bit suspicious of is the very cheap tinplate chainset which I may investigate further.

Good Luck to all

Cheers Widge for the heads up on the 7 page upgrade in Cycle Active , will check it out. The only thing I have changed so far is the tyres , but I think am going to replace the chainset for a Shimano Sora or 2300 as I think the "tinplate" one is not particularly good , the brake pads also need to go ,the only other thing I will change will be the pedals to spd`s . Still a good bike for the money though.

Hi Alan....no probs. Its the October edition (Tescos, Lee Mill!)

Let me know what you go for if you ever change your chainset won't you? I get confused by BB's and axle -lengths!

CA recommend 'Clarkes' brake blocks btw....but you can read all about it.

Best

Well I saw a cheapie road bike on gum tree today so I phoned the shop and said I'll come look at it. It's gears we're on the frame of the bike which I didn't want at all. I saw another used bike and said that's nice, but he said that's too small. We started talking about the first bike again and I just said its a shame that other bikes too small so he said just sit on it. He said I look fine on it, and took his word for it.

When I got home I had a ride and it's too blumin small! It's a 47cm frame and I'm 5'10" with a leg of about 31 - 32".

Also the gears are on top of the handle bars so you have to take your hands out of your riding position and work your way to the top centre of the handle bars. It's hard work!

Luckily the shop has a 30 day return and money back guarantee, it's going back tomorrow!

I paid £200 for the used 'Raleigh Equipe' and they are less than that new!

He saw me comming... Hope I don't have any problems getting my £200 back tomorrow!!!

Definitely too small. I am a 5"3" female and my road bike is 48cm. Hope you get your money back ok and get something more suitable. Presume you have checked ebay, gumtree, adtrader, etc?
