Hi Guy's

Just joined and have a few questions.

I am cycling round the IOW in 6 weeks so decided to invest in a New straight Bar road bike.

not got much money to spend so my limit is around £400.

1st Bike.
Carrera Gryphon Disc Spec Large Performance Hybrid Bike 08

can buy for £320 and looks like it should be ok? Your views please.

2nd Bike.

(not sure of the exact make) but its a Ridgeback new £380 bike.

I spoke to a guy in a independant bike shop and he said that the RidgeBack would be a significantly better bike.

Again you views would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Hi Jimmy, welcome to the forums.

Without knowing which Ridgeback it is, it's hard to tell which would be the better bike.

Your LBS probably suggested the RB would be better because they don't do Carrera, which is a Halfords brand.

If the Ridgeback is a Velocity, then there isn't much between the 2.

The Carrera would probably give you more for your money though. Disc brakes, mudguard eyelets and Sram would probably swing it in favour of the Carrera but then you have to deal with Halfords.

Best is to try them both out and see which is more comfortable.

But you haven't given any drop bar options in your post as the title suggests, I feel conned

Ah yeah sorry.....

I meant straight bar.... kinda got confused between the 2.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah The LBS was prob just hating it because it was from Halfords. For the money I thought it would be a good choice.

As you say just got to try them out....

Does anyone have any experience of the Carrera?
