I have plenty of bikes which are kept in good order by keeping them clean and oiled and minor repairs.

I am now moving on bit and want to change Jannies 9 speed cassette for an almost new 10 speed cassette I have spare. I have a new 10 speed chain and it is not a problem for me to remove and replace the cassette.

Is it possible to replace a 9 speed cassette with a 10 speed and what else will I learn how to do to make this work?

10 speed shifter would be a good thing to have, unless Jannie is using a friction shifter.

And possibly 10spd front & rear derailleurs
Most probably not. The (new) 10 speed right hand STI that you'll need to fit will pull slightly less cable with each 'click' and the RD will move that little bit less (to reflect the reduced 10 speed cassette sprocket spacing. The FD activity will not be affected. The difference the chain width makes is minimal, as far as changing is concerned.
