I have a hill on the way home I usually honk up, its a short hill so I honk up in 2nd rather than spinning in 1st. no rear catch and it feels OK.

Ah ok. I'm a 9 stone/58kg female, so I'm not putting out the power you gentlemen are producing. My Brompton doesn't have a rear catch, but I've never felt that honking it is going to make it fold! That must be a bit disconcerting...
