Hi everyone.
I thought I'd give you all a bit of an update as to what's happening with me, since I've not been on here very often - and I know you've all missed me terribly!
Well - where do I begin? Let's start with the move.
As you all know, moving is incredibly stressful. So, imagine our surprise when we were told that we had to move out of our rented house that we'd been living in for a year. We were given a month's notice (I know, some of you have probably had less), but, still, it wasn't fun at all. Suddenly having to scramble to find a place. After three weeks of, "Oh s***. Where are we gonna live?" We finally found a place in Sackville, New Brunswick.
It's a small University town. We're currently renting the back of a house - not ideal, but it'll do for now. We moved in on April 1st, and immediately began having problems with the plumbing. Blockages meant that for four days, we had no shower or flushable toilet. Joyous. We were also without internet for a week - which meant lots of trips to the local Tim Hortons coffee shop, and McDonalds.
After ten days of absolute hell - we finally got the plumbing and internet all sorted. We've set about in the last couple of weeks acquiring furniture. And I've spent most of my time on-foot, exploring the town. It is an absolutely beautiful place. There's a waterfowl park, a couple of pubs and a few cafes, the University, a movie theatre, a library, two small parks (non-waterfowl inhabited), and I am absolutely loving it here.
As mentioned, the town of Sackville is home to a University. Mount Allison University. After being given the campus tour by a friend from the old town, who goes to school there, I fell in love with the place. Architecturally speaking, it's quaint and old and wonderful. The people are friendly, the profs are approachable (I've spoken to a few), and in general, it appears to be a fantastic place to go to school.
Which has lead me to give some serious consideration to attending Mount Allison University.
But first, a bit of back story.
I am currently dealing with issues surrounding inheritance from the UK - as there's property and lawyers involved and all, I don't want to be incognito, nor not have a permanent address - as this could drag on for awhile. Therefore, I have put off my cross-Canada tour. I think, looking retrospectively, a lot of that desire to leave Richibucto, was exactly that - escapism from a place in which I was immensely unhappy. I just hadn't realised how unhappy I was until I moved here.
And so, having gotten that out of the way... I will, of course, continue writing - and should I attend University, plan a cross-country trip to happen upon completion of my degree.
Speaking of writing and degrees... I have some freelance opportunities coming up with a cycling company in Australia, as well as the local newspaper here in Sackville, and the local newspaper from Kent County (where I used to live), as well as an article due to be released shortly in a Vancouver-based cycling magazine, Momentum Mag. I will be sure to share that publication with you all, once it's published.
And degrees... If I were to attend University, I'd probably study Political Science/International Relations, or Journalism. Or find a way to amalgamate the two somehow. I am still in the information-gathering phase, as I try and make a decision - one which could prove to be one of the most important and biggest decisions I'll make.
So, I have a decision to make. A big one. And any and all advice you lot can offer is greatly appreciated.
That aside, I'm absolutely loving life here. I have to post my camera back for repair on Monday, I should have that returned in about 3-4 weeks after they receive it. For now, I'll take some photos for you all with my phone, though I can't promise as good a quality!
New life. New town. New opportunities. Very excited.
And, I even have a date happening soon.
That's all I've got for you wonderful people.
