Got fed up of close over takes so i am fighting back , Picked a second hand AirZound up off ebay .

Tried in it the shed and my ears went into shock !!!!.

It will not stop numpties but at least i can get their attention

Have fun, they are loud so use with care i.e. don't sound it if approaching a ped at speed as they may not take kindly to it.

I heard a story once about two diesel loco enthusiasts who got hold of the two tone horn off a Deltic or something. They took it home, and wired it up to a car battery to test it.

Blew their bay window out...

I'd agree, not to be used on peds, unless they severely provoke you. I gather it's possible to modulate the sound a little, to distinguish between a gentle toot and a full on strop.

I love my Airzound although be warned most drivers do tend to react to you giving them a blast, but atleast they know your there

There are quite a few videos on youtube of rednecks + pickup + train horn driving around and scaring people.

That would be footage from Hornblasters.com who specialise in supplying kits for fitting railway locomotive-spec airhorns to road vehicles.
I can't condone what they do sometimes as if it were me I'd need new underwear after being sneaky-blasted, but I can't help sniggering like a teenage schoolboy when I watch some of the videos.
If you look on Ebay there are often ex-loco airhorns for sale.

I would only use on peds if I thought they were in danger and it has happened a few times.

Ok that's it im tempted to put the 2nd car horn on after last weeks commutes....Not too bad but a 2nd incident at Stratford where a car drove at me (to scare me at a guess).

Welcome to the Airzound club. I have one and when I ride without it I regret not having it on the bike. Its fantastic and has definatly stopped some near misses for me. Like others have said, drivers dont expect it to be on a bike so they do get a shock - some will not take it lightly and beep back (although I enjoy this exchange of beeps )

Also from some reviews I have read, the volume control pinches the hose and can cause a split so its an excuse to have it on full whack

I would say Airzounds should be mandatory for commuting cyclists, but then they'd get used too much and motons will stop paying attention to them, call for them to be banned etc.

I can't see them being banned TBH.

In a perverse way i am itching to try it on the road but today i have to take the gravel off the flat roof and reseal the felt underneath ( dinner break atm ).

The worst bit is climbing up the ladder to get what is it 20 odd feet up to get on top off the second floor, its not scarey just being cautious.
