Wot no hard hat? aaarghh:sad:

My risk assessment showed that a hard hat wasn't needed. The hole was below head height!^_^

SDS drills are great, but the bits are sodding expensive for bits of metal!
I bought an SDS adaptor and fitted a keyless chuck for wood and metal drilling. However, I tend to use an old DeWalt right angle head drill for that. I have one 240V and one battery version.

Converting my barn, I've been using Erbauer for drill/drivers and demolition hammers. They're cheap and when I bought them had a 3yr g'tee. The first one was a combi and lasted a year, they sent me a new one but I then went for a separate 6 kg hammer to make recesses for joists in stone. My makita drill is good but takes normal bits using hammer action. Drilling granite just makes it hot and breaks the tip off the bits after about 5mm whereas the SDS plus bits go through like cheese, even the 18mm size go in quite quickly. For really big rock cracking a humble pick-axe and sledge hammer is surprisingly good if you're an accurate hitter.

Have also got a couple of makita cordless, 18v jobs, one li-ion with one battery t'other ni-cd with three batteries. The li-ion goes on longer and charges up quicker. I reckon the torque could break your wrist if you weren't careful. Brilliant bits of kit.
No, stop. I'm in tears at the romance of it all.

Though I suspect fnarr will have something to say about the situation....
That would be a whole new thread on a completely different type of forum!:giggle:

That's fantastic and a great innovation. I'll be PM'ing you for DIY tips, if you don't mind.
You any good at wall tiling? That might be my job to do, if I pluck up the courage and my wife has faith in me.

My sister tiled their bathroom, when she couldn't see her own feet due to being 8 months pregnant....

She and her partner actually went on a residential course for a week, as a matter of fact, I think he did plumbing and she did tiling. A practical twist on a holiday, that's saved them a bit of money in the long run...

The bird spike stuff was fun. I drilled the 140 holes, and NT bent the 70 bits of wire/umbrella to fit through.
