Currently I have the Alex 700c AT450's, I want something lighter with similar strength at a not too hefty price, any suggestions?

Define, "a not too hefty price".

Well the bike is a sub 1000, so I dont think it's worth spending a grand on it, I reckon a couple of hundred would be the mark.

Have your original wheels worn out?

If not I'd wait, as @Cycleops says anything at that price is not going to be an upgrade, they'd simply be a replacement.

A popluar cheap wheelset are the SHIMANO R501's, but if you need something stronger I've just ordered a pair of THESE from Rose, they should prove to be bombproof, but they probably won't help you if you're a Strava junkie ;)

No they are new (as is bike) but as I made a substantial saving on buying the bike I thought it might give me room to upgrade some of the components. The full gruppo is Shimano's Sora and this includes front and rear hubs, I know this is entry level gear but it works pretty well.

I was once told that you need to be spending from £400 upwards to consider wheels to be an upgrade over stock ones.

I don't know if that's strictly true, but I did once buy a pair of Mavic Ksyrium SL wheels, (around £450 IIRC), and they felt like a significant improvement over stock wheels.

However how much of that is actually just psychological I couldn't say.

My Equilibrium wears Fulcrum 5's work for me (sub £200)...it rolls much better than it did on the Omegas that got swapped from the Pearson before I got a second pair

Not here offten enough to argue
Campag zondas with shimano hub will cost you 263 on wiggle and would be a world of diff to stock hoops
