I'm preparing for the snow and ice up here in the frozen north, although we seem to be having a very mild spell and no salt has even gone on the roads yet.

So in order to avoid changing tyres again and again, I've splashed out on new wheels, rim tape, winter tyres (Schwalbe Marathon Winters), new more generous cassette (11-32 instead of 12-25) and new 160mm disc rotors for my Genesis Croix de Fer commuting cyclocross bike.

I watched all the videos I could on you tube and had tremendous fun putting them all together. Winter tyres on in less than 5 mins.

Now i can look forward to the ice on the 15 mile morning commute (I must be mad)

Roll on the white stuff

;-)

11-32 you must have some serious climbs on your route!

Well with studded tyres and quite often 2 full panniers I just thought it would make life a bit easier. Some weekend routes can easily have 1000m plus of ascent. The bike itself is 25lbs
Anyway, that's about all the excuses I can think of. .........

It's my first foray into putting together bits of the bike. Rode them today, and nothing fell off.

Gota cracking set of wilkinson wheels, 29ers from parkers of Bolton. Fit the CX bike well and take disc rotors too. Just had to buy some rim tape and some grommets to turn the Schraeder drilled hole into a Prestatyn size. Fast and easy changeover.
