New York, New York so odd they named it twice.

Last time I was in an "Irish" bar in the US (Miami, not NY) a boy named Luigi blamed me for the potato famine, called me a faggot and threatened me with murder.

I left.

Was in a locksmiths in Dun Laoghaire when this guy came up and said 'We've not forgotten what you English did, you know..'.

I agreed and he left. Not being English, it didn't bother me. And he was smaller than me anyway.

Later on I was engaged in conversation by an East European who spoke excellent English. He told me all about how corrupt the Irish politicians were. A conversation that ended abruptly when he caught sight of a member of the Garda walking our way.

so feeble it's had a significant impact on reducing overdoses of paracetamol.

I'm not a 'big' city person, but NYC is amazing... went once a couple of years back, will definitely return.

as for observations... i saw a fair few of these:

surely if they squashed the cans, they'd only need one bag???

How can you recyle them if you can't refill them?

Some of my happiest times have been in New York and I can't wait to go back. First arrived there as a 20 year old on route to North Carolina to work on a summer camp. Spent 3 days there with other 'kids' I'd just met and had an eye-opening experience, to say the least. Think it was a lot more seedy then.

Went back as an 'adult' with hubby and had a great time - flew a short hop to Buffalo to watch Simon and Garfunkel in concert (fab!!) and got wet at Niagara falls. Hubby ran a 5m race in Central Park at 7am.

A few years later got married in Central Park and had our wedding lunch at Inn on the Park (now closed). Took the train through the Hamptons and then a boat to Fire Island - fantastic beach. Had the most terrifying, neck snapping ride on the Cyclone rollercoaster at Coney Island (not to be missed, but make sure you have holiday insurance and a strong constitution) and the most amazing hotdogs (best ate after the Cyclone). Watched Ladysmith Black Mambazo in a free concert in Brooklyn. Slept through a free, 7am, rendition of Christina Aguilera in concert in the park below our hotel window (doh!). Second hand book shopping in Greenwich Village. Cycling in Central Park and watching the rollerskaters. Walking through the Brooklyn brownstones and people watching. Ah, you've got me going now..............

Damn... would have been happy to do so, too (talking of boring places...!).

It would have been good to have a beer and I would, of course, have got my round in too. I was only there from Tuesday to Friday with work so was not there long enough to find out if it was boring. It was my first time in Denmark and from the little I saw of it I found it a lovely country.
I thought you were in Canada, obviously I have that wrong.

I am generally. However, I am currently a Visiting Professor in Aarhus until the end of May, and then I'll be in Japan again until next April before finally returning to Canada.
I doubt I'll be having another trip out there, especially before the end of May, but if I do I'll let you know.
