Hi.

I've got back into cycling this year after nearly 20 years on motorbikes.

I've still got the old road bike I had for my 16th birthday but treated myself to a Specialized Allez 16 2011 model in the sales earlier this year.

I also have a hard tail Carerra mountain bike that I bought to put a baby seat on the back but my girl is 4 now, so we've now got an old Orbita tandem with a SJS kiddy crank setup on it.

I usually ride out on my own as getting time to ride usually means early and late sessions.

I'm doing the Manchester 100 this year (I've paid to do it officially), which was meant to be motivation to do my first ever 100 but I ended up having a day off a couple of weeks ago and did my first hundred via the Pott shrigley brickworks, Buxton and Cat & Fiddle. So now it's just for the experience and a bit of charity.

Cheers
Lee

Hi Lee. Went over the Cat and fiddle myself last weekend. Good riding opportunities in South Manchester.

Hi again and thanks for the welcome. I've been banging in the miles of late, so was over the Brickworks and Cat & Fiddle again on Saturday evening (in Buxton at about 9pm). 47.2 miles in 2:43:30 according to Strava, which is a PB for me, so I was chuffed with that. Currently taking a few days off the bike as I've been doing nearly 200 miles per week for the last 4 weeks, and on Saturday the legs didn't feel very happy at all and the front of my knee feels like it's got an overuse injury coming on. I'll do a run on Wednesday and back on the bike on Thursday for an evening session out to Knutsford or something like that. Visiting relatives for a long weekend, so another 3 days off the bike after that, unless we get back earlyish on Sunday evening, in which case I'll be out again on Sunday.

Have you tried going to Pyms Chair after the Brickworks and out via the Goyt Valley to the Buxton Cat and Fiddle descent, much quieter and a little less exposed than the main Cat and Fiddle climb out of Macc. Just watch which way you go up Pyms Chair if you don't like steep hills as the Jenkins Chapel route is a little, how can I say it, harsh

I once did Pyms Chair in the 80's in winter...never been back since ! It was a tad steep on an old 12 speed Pug

12 speed!? In the eighties I was still on my Raleigh Olympus 5 speed. It was a great bike which I went round most of the Yorkshire Dales on. It also weighed about as much as my Dad's Ford Cortina.
