hi everyone,
im jack shepherd and a keen bike rider and live in essex, i prefer mountain bikes as i love the robustness of them. i have'nt been very lucky with bikes in the past, ive had 6 in the past 4 years and i only starting riding bikes when i was 12. my first one was stolen, the second drowned in a lake (by landslide pushing it in) the third one was damaged beyond repair after it was run over my a road roller (how) and the final three were all stolen within 2 months of each other and for the next 6 months after those i didnt bother. i have currently got a second hand carrera banshee x which is brill. once again hi everyone

Sorry for your losses. Invest in some tougher bicycle security!

Hi Jack and :welcome:.

Yes, how?

just to say thanks everyone for the warm welcome and bikes which were stolen were all locked in a group with my parents bikes! well about the roller, one day i popped to the shops and lent my bike up against a lamp post ( not reliseing they were resurfaceing the car park) but i didnt lock my bike up, i had just come out of the shops when, my bike slipped down the lamp post just as the roller was going past and it flattened the rims, gears, disc brakes and the back part of the frames. i spoke to the driver of the roller and he just said "tell someone who cares" so i had to drag my bike home 2 miles back to my house. the one good thing about it was the bike was a 30 pound second hand bike i got from a car boot.

 That's unbelievably arrogant.

Not too much of a loss I suppose, but still pretty damn annoying.

It does give you an interesting story to tell though  there can't be many people who've lost their bike to a roller.

Regularly. You will need to use the roads to get through Dunmow. There are a number of barriers, presumably to stop motorbikes. My handlebars are too wide to go through the cycle bit so I have to lift it over the barrier, only a few inches but a bit of a pain having to keep dismounting. A couple of places the path crosses lanes, and you have to ride along the lane for a few yards before getting back onto the Fitch and isn't well signed. It is a good ride and one I enjoy. I can also recommend the cafe in the old station at Rayne to fuel up before the ride.
