I like what i have now 1x Hybrid/tourer,1 x MTB and my Fixed which is brilliant but for some strange reason over Christmas i was on Ebay looking at 70's style 3 speed sit up and beg road bikes similar to one i owned with a dynomo front hub ....is that wrong of me ??? There was even a traditional Indian bike which went for peanuts but looked great and definatly not the kind of bike the scrotes would like to pinch, ideal for trips to the shops ( still locked up of course ! ) Plus it would make a smart strong commuter in the winter....now how do i hde a "new" bike from Mrs Skud ???

You see that's a lovely electric bike but the main question I have in regards to these bikes is why the heck are they so bloody expensive? The one above is about 2k right? And there are models higher than 3k,
http://www.50cycles....-assisted-bikes

yet most of the electric bikes around look like cheap ass things made in China.

I hope that if one thing 2011 bring it's cheap, light, reliable and efficient electric bikes to the masses but I fear that's a long way off.

Ah I've just realised that Kalkhoff has a BionX kit attached to it. You might be better off going to France or somewhere else in Europe and buying a BionX kit and using it on your current bike rather than buying another bike.

I recommend reading AtoB magazine. Prices are expensive, but they seem to be coming down. They reviewed the latest Raleigh Velo-City electrically assisted bicycle, which will cost less than £1000 for one model. Apparently, European technology is better, but Chinese is cheaper. It seems to be the batteries that are the main issue. Although their capacity is fine, they have a limited lifetime are quite expensive to replace. They seem to be improving though.

A bigger problem for me is the pictures of the models on the bikes. I'm actually speechless.

After having a further look around the site, all of the male models are fully clothed and all of the women are naked. Shocking.

Yes, that was quite gratuitous, not to mention sexist. Thanks for the tip.

August 2011. The triumphant return of the Ordinary, in carbon fibre and titanium, led by Chris Hoy in a stovepipe hat and beard breaking 60 mph.

I did see a Penny Farthing in a LBS recently; only the front wheel was only 700mm diameter, so it must have been really slow. At least it had v-brakes front and rear. I really can't see proper Penny Farthings coming back. There's a reason why 'safety' bicycles replaced them.

As the original poster of that link, all I can say is; make sure you complain as appropriate. I didn't look at the other version of the bike so didn't see the female sitting on the female version.
Sorry if anyone feels offended - not under my control.
I only look at the way tubes are welded together...

I feel there was a ;) smiley missing. I wasn't actually complaining. Though it seems like strange advertising to potentially offend your female customers. Any how, I don't want to de-rail the thread.

I've started to look at those too. From this information I can confidently conclude that this is going to be the next major trend in cycling in the UK.

Right, back to eBay...

I once, in 2002 rode a bike with a automatic gear change (hub gear) that changed up as your pedaling speed increased and down when it decreased. It even dropped a gear to aid acceleration if you suddenly sprinted before changing up again

Never saw another bike with it on after that

Anyone else wonder if one day many people will be riding the biking equivalent of 4x4's around but with battery assistance to ensure that all the extra bling doesn't affect our performance?

I almost bought a (Pashley) Moulton with a four-speed automatic gear change thing on it. One of those eBay things, didn't win it. I'm still curious to know what it would've been like.

Well since Christmas I've seen lots of teenagers on fixed wheel bikes that all look new ... sort of practising in car parks etc. So at the moment the fixed image must be still regarded as being "in".

Yes, there's a relatively new shop in Reading that seems to target young people. They sell a lot of fixies, so I suspect you're right.
