listening to Jeremy Vine today, he mentioned the Prime Minister saying more ward rounds by the nurses are needed to up care levels, and patients to inspect wards too. I think he is trying to deflect the fact that there just isnt enough staff, and with thousands more planned for the chop, it can only get worse. But then he doesnt seem to want to listen to the nurses.

But it's not just about numbers. The NHS' own figures show that some hospitals perform very much worse than others with the same staffing levels.

Ah their own figures, taken from when they do unannounced inspections. These were normally quietly announced, so more staff could come in to clean and tidy while the patiants were still getting looked after by the shift of the time. So masking the fact that they were understaffed. I guess the ones that underachieved these secret but well announced visits just didnt have the staff anyway.

If you say so, Col, if you say so.

The NHS is not in fact staffed 100% by angels performing miracles 25 hours a day. The reality is that some hospitals are shambolic and badly run, and some staff are lazy and incompetent - just as you will find in any large organisation.

I do say so, I was there. And yes there are lazy staff who shouldnt be there, I actually agree with what you say, but why the sarcasm?

Politicians interfering in areas they know nothing about, they cant control the banks so lets tell the public services how to do their jobs. I've driven over the Forth Road Bridge, does that mean I'm the right person to inspect it?
Now that video clip shows all that is wrong with the NHS.

Firstly it's not the consultants ward, the consultant just works there. He saw an opportunity for his 5 seconds of fame and went for it, in the meantime showing himself up not to be a paragon of best practice, but a complete knob. .
Complete and utter knob - patient contact requires naked from the elbows to avoid cross infection and facilitate washing between patients but would that be required of visitors?

Visitors are supposed to use the hand rub to help stop infection, but the main problems are cloths and feet in my opinion. Sitting on bus/taxi/car seats and walking over dog poo/wee/sick ect even looking clear on paths, still puts germs on to backsides and soles of shoes. they need a mat to walk over to kill germs on shoes, and a solution to the problem of cloths touching patients too. This is why nurses are not supposed to wear uniforms outside, but lots still do.

As DC and NC were presumably there to create self-serving political propaganda, anyone in earshot who might disagree with their politics would be entitled to do the same - or are you suggesting that only politicians should be allowed to make political gestures?

As far as the hygiene angle goes, my understanding was that the consultant was raging at the film crew, who were long-sleeved and crowding around the patients' beds.
