I would miss the pleasure of other people and noticing what they get up to - today was the bloke carrying his shopping in a carrier bag and a really old scruffy broom in one hand whilst trying to hold the handlebars as well (in the car I would be past it before I could take it in fully). Stopping to chat to a friend when you pass them even if it is only for a minute (without holding up all the other traffic on the road). Being able to stop at will just to look at something. Birds and birdsong and the changing of the seasons displayed in vegetation. Sailing past stationary cars - especially on the days when there is an accident causing long tailbacks in all directions.

The wave I get every morning from an attractive young lady who commutes in the opposite direction to me. Up until this week it had been 5 months since my last commute. On Monday morning I wondered if she would still be there. Sure enough, the same friendly little wave and smile. She must have missed me

All of the above, plus getting rained on occasionally. In Australia, where it doesn't always rain as much as it should, getting rained on is a simple pleasure denied to motorists ^_^.

understatement of the year! do these meanderings get longer as the summer approaches? the last one seemed more than long enough.

What, this one you mean??

 I love Fridays, I can ride to work, do a shorter day (leaving around 3:30) and still get a ~200km in (including the ride to work). Tomorrow we're training it down to Lockerbie and cycling back (tail wind!!) in the rain by the look of the forcast!

I like driving. I like cycling. Fortunately I get to do both on my commute.

yep - that;s the one.

we are planning something similar over the weekend & monday. 3 day mini tour, bivvying... not decided on going north first or south first. will probably plan 2 routes and head which ever way the wind is blowing or the weather is better on the day we set out. would not want to overly complicate matters by actually planning something in detail.;)

My ride home takes me past a field of cows. One of the days last week they were right next to the fence as I went past, which was interesting.
I also get to take in the smells of KFC, liquorice allsorts and hot cross buns on my journey, which I would miss if I was driving or taking the bus.

Saw a little dust devil (mini tornado) swirling through a field towards the road kicking up all the soil, didn't have any telegraph poles to grab hold of so rode through it - survived! Yay for me.
