I know there's a few metal heads here, so I think this deserves its own thread

Just read the news that Nicko will play his final gig with Maiden tonight in São Paulo. Apparently a replacement is lined up and will be announced shortly. Nicko had a stroke some time ago, and l'm guessing that the grueling tour schedule has caught up with him.

Here's the first song of Maiden with Nico in the drums, making a big entrance.

Where Eagles Dare is the opening song of the Piece of Mind album, which was the first where Nico played, all the way back in 1983.

Oddly, Nicko is also the drummer for an Iron Maiden tribute band.

I'm amazed and impressed that Maiden have kept going for as long as they have. Seen them many times over the last 25 years and the shows have always been a lot of fun.

They've all got plenty of other interests outside the band so there's no reason to keep it going just for the sake of it. Can't see fans being too disappointed if they do either.

Exactly my thoughts, I'd rather they retired on a high than drag the name along just for the sake of it.

Simon Dawson has been announced as Nicko's replacement for next year's tour. Dawson plays drums in Steve Harris' side project British Lion. It will be interesting to see how it works out.

Makes sense, keeps it in "the Maiden family". I'd read rumours about Steve's nephew Joe Lazarus too but that might have seemed they were going to chuck kids into the mix which would have been weird.

Call it a day after next year chaps.

I certainly think IM should give it up before long. I'd hate to see them become a pale imitation of their former glorious selves like Uriah Heep or Deep Pustule have become.

Yep, and Judas Priest are a long way down that road too.
