Gawd! We used to say "What a chiz" at school. Or was it "swizz"?

Also used to hold up an unwanted object like a pen and shout "Quiz?" and anybody who wanted it would shout "Ego!" (Who? - I!)

Spiffing stuff, eh?

(*hurriedly whips out music for "Fairy Bells" to play on the skule piano which will never be forgoten by those who hav heard it.*)

you can buy secondhand hardback copies, including first editions. Something to hand on to the kids.

And now you know where Hogwarts came from.

The great thing is that they are still funny even though I can't imagine many people on this forum went to a 1950s boarding Prep School.

Remember the Molesworth automatic thank you letter, for instance?
