Do you know when it is open?

here you go (is called In De Vrede - right by the abbey):
We are open every day, from 10 o'clock.
Closed:
- Thursday (of 1 September up to 1 July)
- Friday
- 1st half January (of 1 January up to 16 January 2011)
- 1st half of the Easter holiday (of 7 April up to 17 April 2011)
- 2nd half September (of 15 September up to 2 October 2011)

Apparently it is well worth a stop-off, food being pretty decent.

It's not been my week for bar openings - what with this one being shut, and my favourite bar in Amsterdam being shut too - Gollem just off of Spui for those interested. Though there is an offshoot still open on Overtoom.

Gollem's closed permanently! Arendsnest on Herengracht is good.

Permanently? Oh, that has saddened me tremendously. I've had some astonishingly good nights in there, despite nearly knocking myself out more than once on the steps down to the bathroom. I like arendsnest but...... It's just not gollem. Do we know why they shut it?

Maybe it was a health and safety thing - lots of people knocking themselves out on the steps down to the bathroom?

did a bit of research this morning and the authorities refused to renew the licenses on the two older bars, for shame. So you probably have a point Frank, the steps down to the toilets were positively vertiginous, with a whopping great beam right across them.

Good to see that the cracked kettle beer shop opposite is still open, if there's Westvleteren about - they tend to have it.

Another interested rider here - I've been looking at maps of Flanders and NL in the last two weeks and dreaming about sorting out a trip over there next year, so your suggestion is v timely.
