ColinJ what is it like after Buttercrambe. My mate is over 70 years old.i am actually a little worried. This year could be a testing one,as i have been cycling 'flat' just for him,for the last three years.I don't want to drop him. This route is so much different from one i did years ago, which took in Fridaythorpe and Sledmere, but we were going to Bridlington then.
To be honest, our ride was dominated by the strong tailwind blowing us along. With that helping us, it felt easy. I've just checked my mapping software though and can see that it is basically a flat route with 2 small climbs just after Buttercrambe and a longer one as you come into Scarborough ...

Buttercrambe to Scarborough.gif

The first hill starting after 3 miles is 1.1 miles long at an average gradient of 3.4 %.

The second hill about 5 miles further on is an easy drag followed by a stiffer climb. 0.9 miles at 1.6% then 0.4 miles at 5.3%.

The bigger hill before Scarborough is 2.25 miles at 3%.

So, that section of your ride would be less than 5 miles of climbing and over 30 miles of downhill and flat. Hopefully you would have a tailwind for your ride. If you took it easy on the climbs, especially that short 5.3% one, then hopefully your mate would be ok! :okay:
