Been going through a spate of these lately, don`t know why, this happen to anybody else??

Had a really bad night in the middle of this week, don`t even know what I was dreaming about, but woke up totally cold, and terrified, I had to go downstairs and make myself a drink, and when I looked at myself in the mirror, I was WHITE! I had to comfort myself too "you`re at home and safe, nobody can hurt you" Eventually I settled enough to go back to bed, but why?? I`ve mentioned here that I`d love to change my job as I hate the people I work with, they are nasty but not enough to keep me awake at night, and otherwise life is good.

I`m starting to get afraid to go to sleep now!

You need to see the doctor and get some advice if this is becoming a regular thing. Disrupted sleep can lead to all sorts of other problems. I have had 4 months of seeing a stress councillor and a shrink and am now convinced they can really help. Dont sit and suffer, get some help.

Here are my tips.

Stop drinking coffee. An hour before you go to bed turn the TV off and read a book, not a PC. Read something you like, not work related.

It may help.

If you can't remember what you were dreaming, how do you know it was nightmares and not something else? I went through a phase where I was passing out during my sleep due to my heart stopping, now that was really disconcerting to wake up from and very difficult to rationalise. A more common problem is apnea where you stop breathing during your sleep, although I wouldn't know how that feels.
I can remember bits of it, enough to know it frightened me, but I can`t piece it together enough to make a story out of it.

I can't advise you about sleep, as I don't sleep well. I don't have nightmares, but it might be worth thinking about what you may have eaten or drunk the day before if this happens again.

Opiate based pain killers can cause lots of problems !

I get sleep paralysis often where your half awake/sleep and it feels like someone is in your bed abusing you, Ive kind of got use to it, apart from the moment I think its real and cant wake up, had three episodes within 30 minutes on Tuesday night

One was a young woman with a party of people though only she came in my room, the other was a old hag with no face, the characters come in all shapes and forms

Its worse when these characters hold you down and you can feel it physically. I feel like Im getting raped if I dont wake up in time sometimes.

Ive had this and mine is a Japanese / Chinese string clown puppet at the end of my bed . I cant move or speak but i think i am awake .
I saw something on TV about it and its quite common , the dreams seem to have seven scenarios ranging from the clown , old woman , wolf etc . Now i know i'm not mental i just wake myself up as i know its a dream . Not had it for many years mind you but alot in my 30's .

It may be just a passing phase..perhaps brought on by or exaggerated by your current work predicament.
In my late 20s, I went through a phase of terrible dreams where my childrens lives were in danger, usually associated with water, whirlpools, stuff like that ...absolutely terrible waking up at night with those thoughts.
I dont know what caused it, it came...it passed.

Mine always seem to involve fires, being burgled/robbed, being held hostage by a maniac:eek:, and the last one I can piece together I was driving around a derelict factory site, at dusk and it`s getting dark, and I can`t find my way out - had this one a few times and I think it`s the worst of the lot.

It`s the classic story of waking up in a cold sweat, the house it totally silent, and I daren`t move! This is daft but I`ve taken to sleeping with the landing light on, it`s comforting:laugh:

I used to have nightmares a fair bit as a kid, which tragically led to me not being allowed to watch Doctor Who. Just to be clear, it wasn't Doctor Who that had given me nightmares as I wasn't allowed it just in case. Not that I'm bitter or anything nearly 50 years on.

More to the point, as and adult I tend now to recognise its a dream and wake myself up - even the , admittedly horrible, paralysis thing. Though have been know to spook the Mrs if I do the shouty thing before the paralysis wears off ! Anyhow, knowing the paralysis thing is a normal and well understood state, greatly helps me rationalise it when dreaming ao I wake myself up more calmly.

Most bizarre dream I've ever had was looking across the room to see the Mrs in bed with some bloke (both asleep, just be clear). This was totally real and not-dreamlike or anything, so I was rather put out. Then the chap woke up and slowly sat up - and It was me ! My first thought was that I was dead, and I was my own ghost was looking back at my body (ignoring he'd just sat up). That one really freaked me out as it was far more vivid and real than monsters or whatever.

Blimey:eek:

That`s one thing I`ve never had, seeing myself in a dream, I`m always me - if that makes sense.............
