I have converted a old Raleigh Winner into a single speed. I have used the same wheels that come off the bike. They are chrome rims. Is their any brake pads that will work on those rims in the wet.
If not what can I do as I can't afford new wheel.

Doubt if they are in production now but they used to be a rubber/leather sandwich. Might be available as new old stock on Ebay

Go fixed, then you'll have one brake .... Well, it'll help some, still find I need the front some of the time.

Get those.
I can confirm they work, but only had them on a chrome back wheel, while the front was modern alloy, with normal pads - don't ask!
On the by, my Lbs says sanding chrome rims improves braking power to no end ... I don't believe him, he just wanted to sell me an old banger!
If you get the leather backed ones and later change wheels, change back to ordinary pads too, as the alloy rims would get damaged.

I hate to rain on your parade but I don't rate those pads. I had an old hack bike that I used for a short commute for a few months with chrome rims and those pads, the braking was bad in the dry and virtually non existent in the wet, it makes for an exciting ride for all the wrong reasons :-(

Mine was an old bike so not worth replacing the wheels, I decided to get rid of it before I did myself a serious injury.
