Household membership

My house doesn't ride a bike.

So is this thread for information or a moan about no OAP discount? I find pensioner discounts are increasingly rare and rightly so unless the individual is on benefits.

Re the insurance. I would urge anyone joining Cycling UK "for the insurance" to check the small print. I'm a BC member for the insurance.

I had a major RTC in June. The BC solicitors are handling my PI claim and I'm very happy with the service. The bike insurance though is cr@p. I was offered "current market value" that is secondhand value. My household insurance paid out new for old on the bike, kit, helmet and Wahoo. I got five times what the BC insurance offered.

Also, an enormous proportion of CTC members will be pensioners so they'd be losing a lot of income.

It's like when OnlyFans banned adult content, realised that was where virtually all their revenue came from, and unbanned it six days later.

I had similar when I was a member of the CTC. The legal advice and insurance was crap, despite having read the small print before sending anything. Was asked/expected to settle for £100* as "it was only a bike after all".
At the time it was my transport to and from work, in an out of the way place, travelling at unsociable hours. Sending a copy of the receipt for the two tyres bought the previous week did little to change the amount offered.

@PhilipBenstead007, would someone who was a member before the last rebrand came into effect, be considered a new member?
I was a CTC member, but never a Cycling UK member. No record of the CTC membership held by Cycling UK. There's every chance there's others in a similar situation.

*Way less than 10% of the value of the bike, recently serviced with the entire drivetrain being replaced at the end of the previous month. Ready for a longer commute coming up, to try and keep the job.

and?

You did link to the, non-existent, cycling UK website!

I'm still not clear if you're simply advertising or complaining at the lack of OAP discount?

Sorry I don't know what AICMFP means but, no, I'm not Keir Starmer. As a pensioner, I'm 70, I don't need discounts, and, while I'm happy to take any discount coming my way, I've no problem with paying full price for something. There are too many people in this country who expect somebody else to pay for everything.

Pensioners on benefits is an entirely different matter. It's a shame on our society that a pensioner should have to claim benefits.

But it is a trading name of The Cyclist Touring Club, which in itself is a limited company.
