Noise Reducing Headphones.......anyone got them..........any good ?

I was given a pair of BOSE quiet comfort noise cancelling headphones for a birthday about 3-4 years ago.

They are without a single shadow of a doubt the best thing ever created by a human. 10 hours on the plane on Monday didn't take them off for the duration, blocked out the plane noise, inane chatter of passengers, a whinging/screaming child, and the occasional blather over the intercom form the crew.

If I had to buy another pair I would, I'd never fly without ever again.

The biggest problem I have with headphones is wind noise. Earbud types seem prone for it but cans wouldn't fit when wearing a helmet. Been through loads of different types and most at the budget end (£50 ish) are a let down. Opted for Soundmagic E10s and they have been a stellar headphone for the price.

People know but its not illegal and personal choice as to whether the person uses them.

Most of those BIG headphones are probably NOT actually noise-cancelling. That type use clever tech to pick up external sound and feed an inverse signal to the phones to cancel out most of the noise.

The type of non-cancelling phones with big seals round them do filter out a lot of the noise just by physically blocking it out.

You do not have to pay £200-400 to get a good pair of headphones. I paid £69 for a pair of Audio Technica ATH-M40X headphones which are a HUGE improvement over your typical earbuds. (They are not perfect, but they are pretty good.) Try a pair of reasonable headphones and you will not have to ask again if they make much difference!

You can get very good earbud type, but they are as expensive as (or more expensive) than headphones of equivalent quality.

I think that there is an element of headphones as fashion accessories going on too!

I thought that's what noise canceling is: to invert the signal that is coming in this cancelling the noise: noise cancelling.

Op, I don't have the Bose ones but really like them: QC15/25/35 are really good. I also like the AKG ones and Philips have some for £100 or less which are also very good.

It IS - you didn't read my post properly! I said that is how noise-cancelling works, but that I suspect most of the ones that we see are actually the simple NON-noise-cancelling type.

Noone here has said they are going to ride with headphones but do you condone deaf people cycling?

Went to seville last week and when we got to the hotel accidentally left the ipod and the headphones in the back of the taxi.
My wife had said before we went don't take them because knowing you,you will lose them.......why didn't i listen to her
Hotel rang the taxi company....nothing.
They don't make the ipod classic 160gb anymore so i will have to try and buy one secondhand off ebay
I had 8,000 tunes on the ipod but luckily enough i've still got them on my itunes library.

I've had them for 5 years, they've been in and out of bags, crushed, chewed on and still work perfectly. They are "normal" ear bud ones, but have very big drivers for the extra bass (you can always turn the bass down on your device if this is too much but I find them perfect). When I have them even at lower volume, I can hear little else.

But this brings me to my main point - fit. Get a selection of ear bud sizes and make sure you have a good fit, as I reckon that makes as much difference as anything apart from expensive noise cancelling ones.
