The mechanical Hayes MX4s on my bike where never the quietest things around, but the rear one is making some odd noises now. Been getting progressively worse...

The best way to describe it is a sort of 'burbling' - not a screech but a pulsating warble, mid-low frequency.

I haven't had the pads out, but they look OK from outside, adjustment is near enough spot on and the rotor doesn't appear to be out of whack. Wear seems a trifle uneven but not gouged or anything near that.

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Could be a few things.
Glazed pads-which can be fixed with a roughening up of the pad with emery cloth/sandpaper.
A natural warble-Some avids i got sound like a large turkey gobbling for he is worth and this cannot be fixed, although sometimes changing the disc to something that is perfectly round can help a bit.
disc/pad contamination-replacing either/both is the only real way imo
warped rotor -just bend it straight with an adjustable spanner.

It might be one of them things that just doesn't go away :becool:

Turkey gobbling - that sounds like it...

Been getting progressively worse though so I guess it's time to pop the pads out and see what's going on.
