Tescos had a 10% off code at the weekend, so I bought it locked to tesco mobile then unlocked it using an unlock code from ebay for £1.99.

Have been using it since I got it on monday afternoon and it is an excellent phone, took it off charge on tuesday morning and looking at it the battery still says 33% left my Samsung S3 hardly makes it through the day on a charge so far this has lasted 2 days

Windows OS does use less power I have been told, don't know if it is true though, my Note 2 can go 3 days if it is only used for calls and texts, if I start going into the apps and browsing online that is drastically reduced but it always lasts more than a day and always has half the battery bar still showing, but it is charged every night unless I forget

Don't forget the Note has a huge battery which helps. My iPad mini2 also can last for a similar time.

This has a BIG battery too. I looked at it but bought a Lenovo P780 (similarly a big battery) as my 2 year old Sony was only lasting 1/2 a day with heavy screen use. That Moto G looks pretty good too.

The reviews don't do the Moto G justice it is a great phone for the price, it is faster than my S3 and doesn't have the bloatware on it as it is almost a nexus in that respect.

So far I am hugely impressed and it gets all the Android updates as soon as they come out because of Google owning Motorola. It will be interesting to see what happens once Lenovo get their mitts on Motorola, hopefully they wont mess it up but history of these things tells me they probably will.

I have a Nokia 925 and it is excellent IMO - and not the best of the lumia's, fast processing, crisp sharp screen, I can stream videos with great clarity and sound, the screen sensitivity can be set to respond through my full finger gloves as well as to a raw digit. No idea about the comment on a steep learning curve vs android, I'm quite geeky and enjoyed the fiddliness of android and that I could get into so many nooks and crannies of the OS - far more so than windows or apple - but the Lumia & windows OS is the simplest set up and most intuitive smartphone I've ever had and it doesn't come stuffed with bloatware and c**p.

I also have access to an iphone 4 & 5 and I absolutely hate them in comparison and not just for the designed by children for children look of the interface, they have finniky disjointed settings, unresponsive & less accurate touchscreen, battery life almost exactly the same (heavy use 1 day, same as my old HTC desire was - light use 3-4 days), keyboard input and the predictive selection technique is worse, Yes there are 10 million more apps in the app store but most are variants of the same few genuinely useful utility/app/game; the same on android - there is so much duplication it amkes a mockery of moaning about the size of the app markets; I've yet to find a significant gap in the Windows apps, I can manage my cloud storage, banking, watch iplayer, twitter etc just as easily on windows as the others, it formats here and other websites just as well as the others.

just how many (as we're on a cycle forum) variations of ride tracking or speed computers, etc. etc. do you need? You would have thought Apple would be better at restricting duplicates as they vet all the apps on their store, but it isn't. Probably more a case of their cut form selling them mattering more.

My son has been looking for a new phone, the Moto G is looking like the one.

My daughter has just bought a samsung note. It is a beautiful phone if a tad large. She loves it. My daughter has had an iphone before the Samsung, but she prefers the samdung now.

A lot of it is the accessory manufacturers. They all have a BT LE speed and cadence sensor, so they all have a cycle tracking app.

Not sure about buying a networked locked phone ... my current phone is an unlocked Sony Ericsson from amazon that turned out to be a reflashed O2 phone. I never got ICS on that phone, as sony wouldn't issue upgrades unless O2 approved them. (yup, and two lazy to hack around to apply the upgrade)

I got the original Note when they came out WD then moved onto a Note II which I didn't like as much, so went back to the Note 1...........then the Note III came out and my contract was up so got one of those, and didn't rate it over the Note II, so swapped it for the Galaxy mega....................couldn't give that thing away, now I am back to my Note II in the lovely bronze colour just to be different, but like most boys with their toys I do like the odd change

Well I can tell you that as soon as I unlocked this phone it down loaded the Android 4.4.2 upgrade straight away with no problems.

I am surprised you had a problem with an o2 phone because as a rule o2 dont lock any of their phones.

it wasn't o2 locking it, it was Sony not upgrading any o2 models until o2 signed off. As o2 wasn't selling the phone anymore, they didn't bother signing off.

Anyway, getting a locked moto g tomorrow (thanks!) who's the recommended ebay unlocker?
