PORTLAND -- A TriMet bus driver accused of reading while driving said he had a device on the dashboard, but wasn't looking at it, according to his attorney.

at work I got asked why my phone was propped up on the keyboard between the F keys and number keys

"i'm watching the election stuff" was my reply

"ok, but if your productivity goes down, its in your bag - don't let anyone catch you"

my boss gets a readout of how many cards i've processed each day, so he knows its gone up since watching stuff on my phone

my point is, "i wasn't using it"

why was it out then?

Of course they can - only a retard would use it while driving. Most people would park up, either in a lay-by to do some work, or in the drive-thru car park, at the viewpoint, etc etc

You can't ban a potentially useful item (and you know that's the way you were going) just because some muppets will use it stupidly...

as far as I can tell, the products are genuine, and potentially useful

but as with other amazon reviews, people are having a laugh.

Last year I saw folks with laptop trays on their steering wheels playing on their laptops whilst tanking it along the freeways in Houston, Texas. I was stunned, especially given the way that vehicles regularly cut across the 4 lanes from all directions. It's utter chaos on those roads. Most Americans seem to get behind the wheel and then forget they're supposed to be driving. 90% of them are on mobiles, looking everywhere but ahead of them. Some are doing paperwork on their lap. Some are reading.

Then again, there are huge accidents on them many times every day, so there's a lot of twisted metal & bits of cars and trucks at the sides of the road (not to mention a lot of rubber & paintwork left on the huge concrete walls bounding everyone in).

The US has the highest death rate due to road traffic collisions than anywhere in the developed world (4 times what it is here). However, they are still way behind the majority of African nations, where the death rate is 3-4 times that of the US.

In my experience most of the African accidents involve buses rammed with people going into ditches and ending up upside down. Pretty horiffic in most cases...

When i'm driving and see other drivers on their mobile phones it makes my hands shake with rage which sometimes makes me drop my razor into my cornflakes.
