Am staying in Mallorca and have rented a bike for Friday. Anyone have any good route suggestions. Its hot so nothing too strenuous. I am thinking of a circular route of perhaps 50 miles from the Ca'n Picafort area.

It looks like I am about 30 miles from anything interesting, which could be an issue?

What about using the bike shuttle service https://www.mallorcacycleshuttle.com/en/routes

Up and over to cap formentor. Flat upto pollenca and over the hill.

The trophy climb is Sa Calobra, but that might be a longer hike than 50miles to get there and back. You descend into Sa Cal and then climb back out. Its epic. Head up there via Caimari and escorca. Check a profile on ride with gps or similar though it will be a lumpy day.

Very hilly (with severe climbs on the North west) ..nice and undulating in the North East.

I would head out to the caves of Arta and back or similar....the roads tend to be better and less crowded over that way.

A nice inland ride would be to head from Alcudia on the marsh road to Sa Pobla, up to Muro, on to Sineu, Petra, Inca, Selva, Campanet

And then you can either head to Pollensa/ P Pollensa or just back through Sa Pobla.

This will be a flattish 50 miler(ish) that will take you through pretty stuff. Plenty of cafe stops.

If you want a hill then get up early, head to PP, straight up to Lluc, turn left down to Selva and home.

I've used the cycle shuttle. We had them take 8 of us from PP right over the island to Cala Pi.
Cost about £18 each from memory.

Brilliant, thanks all.

The caves sound nice and flat..a ride up to PP is probably a good bet too. I can decide if I then fancy any of the hills on the cap formentor.

Cheers all

Cap formentor is more of a hillock, than a hill. I did it 30 years ago on a single speed tandem, from Can P as it happens. Nice bay and beach at the other side.

I took the route that I set out above, on my rented plastic bike which was a novelty for me as I have never ridden one over any real distance. I went right to the top of the "hillock" at formentor, (not the tourist top but the top top) to the round fort thing and then started out back down a bit and ontowards the lighthouse. Got to the sweeping bottom of the other side of the hillock (awesome switchbacks) and realised I only had half a bottle of water left (I had taken on one and a half bottles climing up the hill ...along with the 15 or so mile ride from picafort) so "bottled it" and climbed back up to the cafe at the "not top" of the hillock for more water and then went back down via PP and onto old Pollensa for a bite to eat before heading back through Alcudia and Picafort.

just under 50 miles all in, so not a bad guess.

I cant upload to strava yet, so it clearly didnt actually happen. Once I have a PC that will accept a garmin, I´ll upload so that my legs can have an official excuse.

Its a funny old game this cycling lark, I was least bothered by the flat ride to PP and more concerned about the hills in the heat. turns out the hills were good fun and felt like a real achievement, the flat bit actually felt like a grind on the way back with a hot headwind and no shade.

Thanks to all (@stumpy66 @T4tomo @Dave 123 @doog for the route suggetions and even @User for setting my bearing. Very good riding out here, I´m due back in late september for a few days riding with friends and shall aim to get to the lighthouse then.
