Hi, there's loads of great cycling around the area.

It would be good to understand the distances you would like to do and whether you want flat or climbing.

@LukeR Depending on how I read your request depends on my answer sadly.

Do I know of any good road routes in NW Warrington? The answer is no. Not leading out of the north west of the Warrington area. In fact a friend who lives in north west Warrington actually always heads south first.

If I read it was do I know of any good road routes in the north west, specifically the Warrington area, then yes... loads They all head south and a very quick escape from Warrington is the A49 which is fine to ride IME until you get to Cuddington. After there (south of there I should say) I don't really like it but that is because I know of much better roads to ride. However between Warrington and Cuddington it used to be a 3 lane road (except for the what I call the Runcorn traffic lights which is the Runcorn Northwich road) and has been dropped to 2 very wide lanes so even lorries when there are oncoming cars, have loads of room to overtake you without issue.

Yell if it is the latter and I can make some suggestions. Add the kind of distance you want to ride as well.

Lots of routes south that miss out the a49 entirely, happily. Best thing to do is go explore!

Some good cycling to be had north of town, too.

I'm in Warrington and do the sort of distances you said so if you want a scout sometime let me know.

This will give you more routes and information about things to see than anybody can in a web forum:

Except it doesn't cover any of the land south of Warrington.

I read the OP same way as SSSSO - he's looking for routes in the NW round-Warrington-way, not in north-west Warrington (that would a pretty small area to be doing a 30-100 mile ride!)

I do A49 out towards the M62. Straight over motorway island, turn right at the swan and head out towards Culcheth and Glazebrook.

Alternatively, turn left at LA Bowl, then right down the back, head out then towards Burtonwood and Newton, you can then turn left at Newton, and join it on to the Culcheth and Glazebrook routes for something longer.

Maps from my strava of those routes are there.

Cheers for the reply. I'm looking to do 30 miles plus under 100 though mixture of flat and climbing

At that kind of distance, you can head out down the A50 into Knutsford, and on to Macclesfield.

Return at Chelmford for a 40 mile round trip. Or continue into Macclesfield, via Gawsworth for pletny of country lane climbing, round trip of around 65 miles

Okay, couple of observations...

- A50 to Knutsford is an okay route but there are much nicer ways to get there. I didn't find them for a year or two.
- Carrying on south of Knutsford gets you into some lovely Cheshire countryside with Jodrell Bank radio telescope a popular turning-point.
