Northampton gets it's version of 'Boris Bikes'

Riding through Northampton yesterday, just by the bike jump park on Bedford Road, I saw, for the first time, the new Cycle Connect bike scheme.

Apparently it started last Monday. I wonder if it'll take off.

I noticed that Reading has just got those yesterday, they look like they are shaft driven.

It looks like they are. I didn't have much of a chance to check them out as I had to get back for work. Next time I pass by, I'll get a close up pic.

That looks like some distance you have to do to jump all those parked bikes.

We saw similar bikes in Vannes in Britanny earlier this year, and indeed they were shaft drive.

We've got them out here in Nantong, China and I have a card and find them very convenient to go somewhere and not have to worry to find a place to lock my bike to railings etc.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think the idea around shaft drive and non standard parts is to, hopefully, deter theft.

They're exactly the same bikes that have landed in Reading recently, just a different colour. I find it odd that they have them Reading isn't exactly the nicest place to ride a bike around. Still, lets hope they become more popular the more folks on bikes the better.
