Guess what happened to me going over a speed hump on this evening's commute home...

Yup, another busted rear spoke ;) Fat folks and push bikes maybe just don't mix.

Phoned Evans to have a moan... 2 spokes gone since new bike in August, 1st one cost me £18 for replacement and wheel true at my LBS. He said he would call Specialized and try' for warranty but they normally just say a flat no if it's wheel related.

Got a call back from the guy at Evans within 5 mins and he'd blagged it with Specialized (told them the bike was only 3 weeks old ) and they agreed to send out a new rear wheel. Now I just need to get the bike with the banana-esque rear wheel into the shop! He suggested I ride it in even if the wheel disintigrates as it is going to be replaced anyway.

It''s 5 miles to the shop, so you think I should just disconnect the rear brake and ride the fecker in?

What make wheel is it just out of interest. I had a set of Alex Rimms A1 on my Sirrus Comp and the rear wheel fell apart.

Specailized replaced both the front and rear for me with a nice new set of shimano wheels which was good of them.

I did have to give the shop a bit of a push to get the ball rolling.

How many spokes? Generally if one spoke goes you'll find that more will go too. Best to get the whole thing re-laced or a stronger wheelset. People on here don't seem to have much luck with stock Specialized wheels..

I pumped up a kids bmx last night that was so tightly packed with spokes it might of just as well been solid; I could only just get my pump head in.

I never had a problem with my spesh/ alex rims. Although I did upgrade them after about 4,500 miles.

I think they are Alex Z1000 rims. The guy on the phone did say that if 1 goes it's often followed by another and after my 1st one broke the guy in the LBS suggested it was quite bent and he would try his best to true it after replacing the spoke (which he did). I thought it seemed fine.... until today

Pretty good of the chap in Evans to blag it on warranty with Specialized and have them send in a brand new wheel.

If you were in Norwich, I'd suggest you pop along to Specialised Cycles on Connaught Road and get Andy to build you a new wheel. As it is, you're not, so find yourself a LBS where you can get a wheel built from scratch, using strong rims & spokes.

I broke one on mine before Christmas, went to the LBS, they matched the spoke, charged me 75p for it and I fitted it myself, its a doddle.

When I was on Holiday (it seems like ages ago) one bloke had Askiums but broke a spoke. He took his wheel to a couple of bike shops but none of them had replacement bladed spoke.

Which is why I bought a handfull of spare spokes when I got my Aksiums. They only cost a couple of quid each, so worth it just in case.
