Yesterday, coming out of my house to get in the car to take Miss Cisamcgu to her weekend scout camp there were two scallies/chavs/yoofs, complete with "hoodies", walking along the road with a large pitbull-like hound on a leash

One of the lads was bending down, doing something at the base of a neighbours gatepost - "Uh oh" I thought - "what are they up ?" well, to my amazement, after a few seconds one of then stood up holding a small platic bag, heavy with dog poo, the other one laughing and holding his nose.

They continued then to walk along the street, the first lad holding the bag between his finger and thumb. I half expected the bag to be chucked into the first available garden, but no, they wandered along the street, out of sight, still taking the bag with them

I had a warm glow in my heart as I watched them, and decided not to judge people so quickly in future

They'll have probs flung it on an OAP's head.

They're probably going to wrap it in paper, set it on fire on your doorstep later when you're back, ring your bell and watch from across the street you stamping the fire :laugh:

Not a bad idea that.

IME most 'yoofs' are nothing like the minority of mindless yobs portrayed by the meedya. Just like the majority of 'yoofs' when I was one, who were also portrayed as mindless yobs by the meedya....

There are fifteen teenagers listening to reggae in the back garden, and they're as sweet as can be. They want very little from life - just a place to hang out and have a few drinks, and listen to music. (And to be able to sleep until midday).

I get a bit pissed off at the 'yoof are bad" brigade. Most of elder Noodlette's friends are the 'in crowd', <Fast Show> a bit whoah, a bit wyeh, a bit swish-swish <Fast Show> and they are all involved in lots of what the might be perceived as "non cool" activities: dancing, guides, athletics, music, etc. And some of them have really shoot backgrounds, but due to their friendship they have a huge amount of support and resilience. They are much more 'grounded' than I ever was at their age.

I was a right hooligan at one point of yoofhood and quite naive in my view of what was acceptable as a young adult, never enough to be on the wrong side of the law (except for the motorbikes  ) but enough to be a bit anti-social. It's good to remember this as I bring up my own children.

don't judge people by their clothing - hooded tops are fashionable at the moment, about half of my jumpers are hoodies (i'm 25) and not quite mrs black sheep has about 2/3 hooded tops

So - they were turned out a little after 1 this morning (there's a bunch sleeping on the living room floor, which is why I'm up here). There was some noise in the street, but 'ssshhhh!' did the trick. And the kitchen and the living room were tidied up before those staying over turned in at 2. I'm just going to go downstairs and do toast and tea, and bless the day.
